This red, arch-shaped iron bridge stretches over the gorge near the headwaters of Abukuma River. In winter, when you look out from the bridge, it appears as if a blanket of snow has divided the river flow of the gorge, giving rise to the name, "Yukiwari." The landscape is picture perfect when new leaves sprout in spring and when the entire area turns fiery red in fall.
The contrast between greenery and the lake is beautiful in this park, which was created by the wise and celebrated leader, Sadanobu Matsudaira. It is said to be the oldest park in Japan. "Kyorakutei" is a teahouse built by Sadanobu so that he could enjoy tea with residents. It still stands preserved in an area of the park.
Nagashige Niwa, lord of the Tanagura Domain, built a castle in 1624. Until it fell in war, it was home to 8 families and 16 generations (a span of 244 years) that governed this land. Its spring water moat was a rarity in Japan. In fall, the autumn leaves are reflected in the moat, making a beautiful scene.
The beauty of flowers representing each seasons, like an Iris or a Peony brings with them a beauty of their own. You can enjoy a "Teuchi" soba (hand-made soba) inside a traditional house or try making an earthenware just like the old hunters during their time.
156 Cherry blossom trees, all in full bloom are lined up along the street stretching for approximately 1.1 kilometers. The whole scenery of 156 Cherry blossom trees can be seen from the Towada City hall's lobby. Best time to visit: Mid-April to early May.
An island that is said to be god's dwelling place and treasured by the local people. It's a place known as the breeding grounds for Black-tailed gull and where you can see 30000 to 40000 birds flying up-close during spring.
With 6500 Sakura tress planted that spanned for 20 kilometers, the world's longest line of Sakura trees took the locals 10 years to create. You can drive or walk through the tunnel and enjoy the green and vibrant red colors. Best time to view: Late April to early May (May vary depending on the height and location)
The entrance to the world heritage site called "Shirakami Sanchi". A place where you can see a "Blue pond" and a Beech forest untouched by human society. It's charm and beauty will be made clear to you once you see it with your own eyes.
There is a tollway where you can go up Mt. Iwaki by car up to the 8th stop. And from the parking lot, you will be greeted by a beautiful panoramic scene and if you look below, you can see a sea of clouds. There is also a lift that goes up to the 9th stop. This will let you reach the summit easily.
